Campden BRI is the UK's largest independent membership-based organisation, carrying out research and development for the food and drinks industry world-wide. It incorporates a department of 40 staff working in sensory & consumer sciences. Campden BRI is committed to providing the industry with the research, technical, and advisory services needed to ensure product safety and quality, process efficiency, and product and process innovation.
The Campden BRI R&D programme reflects the needs identified by industrial members and provides a constantly renewable knowledge base for technology transfer. Key issues of importance for member companies in consumer and sensory sciences include: consumer attitudes and behaviour, product and brand perception, marketplace information, new product trends, factors contributing to new product success and the improvement of the efficiency of new product development, methods for measuring the sensory quality of food, applications in quality assurance, product specification and shelf life measurements, and methods for measuring preference and the relationship to sensory analysis.
A continuous programme of investment ensures leading-edge processing and analytical facilities for research and contract work. Facilities include three fully equipped food processing halls, product and process development facilities, a substantial leading-edge sensory analysis suite and consumer test centre, and extensive research and analytical laboratories covering microbiology, hygiene, chemistry, biochemistry, and microscopy.
